American Legion Commander Discusses Upcoming Memorial Day Service

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A Memorial Day Service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 25 outside the Hill County Court House.

American Legion Commander Les Johnson said along with laying wreaths for the veterans they have a lot of great things planned for this year’s service.

“Dena Rudio will be singing the National Anthem, Boy Scouts will be doing a flag ceremony, they’ll be reading the last year’s deceased veterans’ names and they’ll be an honor guard with a 21-gun salute.”

Johnson said a lot of other services have cancelled but they felt the outdoor venue would help keep everyone safe.

“A lot of places aren’t having them because of the social distancing but we decided since it’s outside we could go ahead and do that. Normally we had a free will offering lunch at the Elks Lodge, we’re not having that this year because there’s just not enough room to keep everybody separated.

Johnson also said this Sunday at 9 a.m. they will be placing flags on veterans’ graves at Highland Cemetery and if anyone would like to participate they can call 394-2287.
