WASHINGTON (NMB) – The U.S. Census Bureau is beginning to email households in low-responding areas to encourage them to respond to the 2020 census.
The emails are being sent from the address firstname.lastname@example.org and could be sent anytime between now and September.
Montanan’s that haven’t already responded should click the link in the email and complete the brief and confidential census form online.
Households have until October 31st to respond to the census. The results of the census are used to determine the number of U.S. Congressional seats each state gets, and play a major role in how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funds will be allocated by state, local and federal lawmakers annually for the next 10 years.
According to the Census Bureau, Montana’s response rate as of Friday was 56.5 percent, more than six percent below the national average.
On the Rocky Boy Reservation, the response rate so far is 20.4 percent, while the Fort Belknap Reservation has seen a response rate of 16 percent.
