Great Northern Fair Board Elects Officers, Continues Fair Preparations

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Great Northern Fair Board met on Tuesday evening for their regular monthly meeting.

With the previous Chair and Vice-Chair recently having resigned, the Board elected new officers. Josh Heitzenroder was elected the Chair of the Board, while Michelle Burchard was elected as Vice-Chair and will also serve as Secretary.

With the 2021 Great Northern Fair less than three months away, the Board says the majority of acts and events are set, although specific times are still being nailed down. An official fair schedule is expected to be released in the coming weeks.

Grandstand events tentatively set include a Junior Rodeo on July 14th, an NRA Rodeo on July 15th and 16th, the Demolition Derby on July 17th, and the Robert Henry Band on July 18th.

Dreamland Carnival, the company the Board has previously contracted with for midway duties, has canceled. However, Fair Manager Frank English says they are working on finalizing a contract with Midway Amusements out of Arizona for the Fair. English says there will be about 15 rides, and it will be an improvement over previous fairs. This is all dependent on the contract being approved by the County Attorney and the Board.

Hill County 4-H Fair has released their schedule, with their Fair beginning on July 11th with a set-up day and concluding on July 18th with the small animal show and livestock sale.

Other than voting for officers, no other official action was taken. No agenda was provided to the media prior to the meeting but it was available at the Community Center.

Other topics discussed at the meeting:

  • May 15th will be a big day at the Fairgrounds, as there will be four different events scheduled. This includes a Havre Lions Club Pronto Pup Drive-Thru, an Adult Pinewood Derby, the Western Trailer RV Mother’s Day Sale, and a concert being put on by KNMC
  • The improvement project on the Bigger Better Barn is just about complete, although they are still discussing what to do about an announcer stand. The Board seemed to lead towards building a mobile stand on skids. All materials have already been provided by Board member Jack Solomon
  • The Fair has acquired a spray truck for free from the Hill County Weed and Mosquito Department. This will be used for treating weeds and for fire prevention
