Havre Wrestling Coach’s Thoughts on Past Week and Present Week

The Havre wrestling teams had two events at home this past weekend, which were the Havre Mixer and the Havre Invite. At the mixer, seven boys and one girl finished in first place in their respective weight classes, while five other boys and two other girls placed second.

Coach Beau LaSalle told New Media Broadcasters that the effort shown during both mixer and the invite was what he wanted to see, especially out of his young core.

“We were pleased with the efforts the kids gave up and down the lineup,” LaSalle said. “(I was) really impressed with the young kids, some of them in their first high school tournament.”

LaSalle is already looking ahead to Divisionals and State, which will happen next year. However, he said what his teams need to do early on this season to steadily improve.

“We just need to get better. It’s the beginning of the season,” LaSalle said. “We have a lot of little technical things to fix and (we) need to keep continuing to get into better shape so that we are ready to go come February.”

The teams are on to separate tournaments this weekend. The Havre boys’ will open up in Butte for a three-day tournament featuring the Butte Central Mixer and the “Mining City Duals”. The Havre girls’ have a two-day tournament in Kalispell for the “Flathead Girls’ Invite”. LaSalle gave the logistics of how he will coach the teams this weekend.

“We just have to split our coaching staff,” LaSalle said. “The girls will go with a couple of our coaches and then the boys will go with the rest.”

“It (sometimes) happens throughout the year,” LaSalle said. “Luckily, it usually happens (to be) that we’re in the same town but not always in the same gym.”

Stay tuned to New Media Broadcasters this weekend for results from both the boys’ tournaments in Butte and the girls’ tournament in Kalispell.
