MSU-Northern Basketball Swept by Montana Tech Saturday

It was an uneventful Saturday for MSU-Northern basketball in Frontier Conference action as they got blown out in a doubleheader by Montana Tech. The Skylights lost, (64-43), while the Lights suffered a (72-54) defeat.

For the Skylights (10-14, 4-7 in conference play), they didn’t come out ready to play, surrendering a (17-7) 2nd quarter and were outrebounded in the game by the best rebounding team in the Frontier, (39-27). Aubrie Radamacher led the way for the Lady Orediggers with 19 points and Brooklyn Hankwitz poured on 16 2nd half points. Junior forward Shyan Krass was the lone bright spot for Northern, scoring 11 points on 5-of-8 from the floor.

For the Lights (10-14, 2-9), they lost to the No. 11 team in the NAIA standings, getting bullied in the paint with a lopsided (44-16) count from inside despite holding Tech well below its season average in scoring. Hayden Diekhans was the leading bucket getter in the ballgame, scoring 14 points on a perfect 7-of-7 shooting. Michael Are also had 12 points, while reigning Frontier Conference Player of the Year Caleb Bellach contributed 11 points. Senior guard Zack Martinez was held to two 2nd half points, but did have 12 for the game for Northern.

The Skylights and Lights will next be on the road this coming Thursday to face Montana Western in Dillon. Women’s game starts at 5pm with the men to follow around 7pm. Listen to that game on KPQX-92.5FM and
