Northstars Sweep Chargers

The Havre Northstars played a doubleheader on Thursday night in Great Falls against the Chargers ‘A’ team. In a set of contests that had to be rescheduled due to the playing surface on the field, Havre took care of business, winning (8-3) and (12-1) in five innings, respectively.

In game one, the Northstars took out frustrations of a three-game losing streak by going off in the first inning, scoring four times and sending eight batters to the plate. It was (6-0) after two innings. Great Falls got a run back in the third inning and another in the fifth. The Chargers also scored in the sixth inning to cut the deficit in half, but the Northstars scored some insurance runs in the seventh.

Tommy Lewis got the start and almost went the distance, pitching 6.1 innings and fanning nine Chargers. Teegan Solomon closed the game on the bump, recording the final two outs, albeit loading the bases and getting out of a jam.

Game two saw a similar start to game one. Havre put runners on base and scored twice. Great Falls answered right back this time and were able to force in a run to make it (2-1) at the end of an eventful first frame. The action wouldn’t let up and the Northstars ended up taking advantage in the next half inning with center fielder Terek Shipp delivering the play of the series with a three-run triple to put Havre up, (5-1).

The Northstars scored four more times in the third inning to go up, (9-1). Havre was able to push across three more runs in the fifth inning, including a steal of home by right fielder Logan Kinsella. Colter Solomon shut the door on the mound in the bottom of the inning to end the game and finished his night with the one run allowed and nine strikeouts.

Four more games will be scheduled for the Northstars this weekend when they hit the road up north to Canada. Saturday’s games will be against the Vauxhall Spurs and first pitch is scheduled for 3pm.
