HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – U.S. Representative Greg Gianforte spoke with New Media Broadcasters on Tuesday to provide an update on the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gianforte says he believes Governor Steve Bullock has taken the right steps by closing schools for two weeks and leaving other decisions up to local governments.
“He did make the decision to send kids home for an extra week here, leading up to spring break. I think that was prudent. And he’s left the decision about hotels and local restaurants up to the local public officials. And I think that’s the right way to do it.”
Gianforte says Congress is planning on ways to support small businesses who are being impacted by this pandemic.
“The next step is going to be an economic package to help small businesses that are hurt from this. But if people stay calm and we take these precautionary steps, we’re going to get through this together.”
Gianforte strongly urges people follow the new CDC guidelines, which includes staying home if you’re sick and not holding gatherings of over 50 people.
