HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin (mah-noo-shin) announced Tuesday, March 17 that corporations and individuals can defer tax payments in Montana due to COVID-19.
The request was originally submitted by Congressman Greg Gianforte who says this will bring great relief to Montanans.
“As we confront this serious public health crisis, it’s critical for hardworking Montanans and job creators to have relief from IRS deadlines and mandates,” Gianforte said. “I’m grateful that the Treasury Department adopted my request that individuals and businesses receive a deferral to pay their taxes.”
The request allows individuals to defer up to $1 million and corporations to defer up to $10 million in federal tax payments. These payments will also be exempt from penalties and interest charges.
