Weber talks school counselor importance

(Chinook) This week is School Counselor Appreciation week, and New Media Broadcasters spoke with local educators about the importance of school counselors.

Before she became the Principal of Meadowlark Elementary, Leslie Weber was a counselor for 25 years, and she says that being a school counselor is all about connecting with students.

“I enjoy students immensely, as an example four 3rd grade boys just came in here and [asked me] can I come out there and take a picture of them by their fort because I did that a couple weeks ago. I think it’s all about relationship building, I don’t care if you’re in a school. You could be a teacher, you could be a paraprofessional, you could be the actual school counselor, administration. As an administrator, I try to have that relationship with all the students”
