House Bill 38 Signed Into Law

(Helena) – Governor Greg Gianforte recently singed House Bill 38 sponsored by Republican Representative Greg Oblander into Law.

House Bill 38 make the theft of a light vehicle a felony crime. Montana Code Annotated defines a light vehicle as: a motor vehicle commonly referred to as an automobile, van, sport utility vehicle, or truck, having a manufacturer’s rated capacity of one ton or less.

A person convicted of theft of a light vehicle is now subject to a fine not to exceed $50,000 or be imprisoned in a state prison for a term not to exceed ten years or both.
