(Havre) – The Havre City Council convened for their regular monthly meeting Monday Night in City Hall.
The council approved resolution 3380 for a speed limit change of 15 miles per hour and installing traffic signs on 13th street west from 1st avenue west to beaver creek boulevard. The resolution also provides for the creation of a four way stop at 15th street west and boulevard avenue. The council also approved resolution 3381 which authorizes Mayor Doug Kaercher to apply to the Montana Department of Transportation for assistance from the Montana Coal Endowment Program to cover the cost of a preliminary engineering report for the Havre Bullhook infrastructure.
The death of Alderman Josh Miller has caused a vacancy in Ward 1 for City Council. The Council tabled filling the position until the July meeting as the deadline for candidates to file for the City Council General Election in November, is June 19th.
Mayor Kaercher appointed Matt Boucher and Andrew Brekke to two-year terms on the City-County Planning Board and Jason Barkus was appointed to the Police Commission.
A committee meeting about allowing Urban Chickens in Havre will be held by the ordinance committee on June 20th at City Hall. Finally, a group of business owners and residents requested a meeting with Mayor Kaercher and Public Works Director Trevor Mork about the flooding and sewage backup that occurred and affected business and Havre Beneath the Streets between JM Donoven Design’s in Fine Jewelry and the Havre Eagles Club. A date for that meeting was not set on Monday Night.
