Havre softball ended up having a disappointing finish to the end of its season, bowing out after two straight losses in last weekend’s MHSA State Class ‘A’ Tournament. New Media Broadcasters talked with head coach Tony Vigliotti and he got candid about the experience.
“When you have time to reflect, it’s a little easier,” Vigliotti said. “It stings in the beginning, but going to that state tournament with higher expectations, it’s a funny game.”
“We just picked a bad day to not play very well,” Vigliotti continued. “We just could not get hits back-to-back. We just couldn’t string anything together.”
“It happens. When you get to the state tournament, everyone is good, so you’re going to have to play good softball to advance,” Vigliotti said. “Unfortunately, we didn’t do that.”
With the experience of playing big time softball comes a lot of lessons learned, especially for a core that can come back and get better. Vigliotti thanked the three seniors who contributed their efforts to his program, but took a positive spin on the future outlook of the Blue Pony softball program.
“The girls had a great year,” Vigliotti said. “We had a great group of seniors (and) leadership from Elle Verploegen, Shelby Huston, and Jersi Morse. They had great years for us.”
“Then, we had six brand new faces in new places most of the year,” Vigliotti continued. “(Catcher) Camille (Keeley) is going to have to be a leader next year as she goes into her senior year and we’re going to be loaded with seniors.”
“Rachel (Jette) will be next up in the circle for us,” Vigliotti said. “It’s all positive. We’ve got some great kids coming back.”
