The Frontier Conference winter sports season came to an end last week, but that doesn’t mean the conversation has to stop. New Media Broadcasters caught up with Frontier Conference commissioner Dr. Scott Crawford during last week’s basketball tournament in Great Falls. He gave some insight into what the postseason tournaments will look like next season and beyond as six new teams come into play.
“In terms of postseason, what has been decided is we’re going to move to a model where we will have eight volleyball teams participate,” Crawford said. “(We’ll have) eight men’s, eight women’s basketball teams participate.”
“The feeling in the room was (seeds) nine through 12, time to get out and recruit and get ready to get better for next year,” Crawford continued.
There are also questions even before that as the new teams join the Frontier. Crawford laid out a detailed account of conversations he has had with university presidents, athletic directors, players, and more about how the new 2025-26 schedule will work and it’s like old is new again.
“We’re going to a travel partner schedule,” Crawford said. “So, Providence and Northern will be travel partners.”
“They will play each other in a mid-week contest,” Crawford continued. “They’re close. It’s easy to make that happen.”
“There could be then a weekend series with the (opponents) that are coming to them or they’re going to,” Crawford said. “We might have three games, but that would be once or twice a season in the respective sport.”
