The Havre softball team played its penultimate conference game as the squad hosted Sidney on Friday evening at Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. The Ponies swept the season series, winning this latest game by mercy rule, (10-0) in five innings.
Designated Player Bree Hanson went yard, smacking a solo home run to begin the fourth inning. Havre was already up, (4-0) at that point. The Ponies also got four runs by RBI singles. Catcher Camille Keeley continued her torrent pace to the season, leading the team with three runs batted in on three hits. Keeley now has 21 RBI in 16 games played.
Elle Verploegen dominated in the circle. She took a perfect game into the fifth inning, allowing only one hit and striking out eight Eagles batters. She got her ninth win of the season.
With the victory, Havre (10-6, 4-1 in conference) is one win away from clinching the No. 1 seed at the Eastern ‘A’ Divisional Tournament, which will be played in two weeks time down in Lewistown. The Blue Ponies will close out the conference season on Saturday afternoon with a 3pm first pitch at home against Glendive.
