The Havre tennis teams wrapped up the 2024 season at state over the weekend. There was a lot of success in Kalispell with five Blue Ponies competing and four match wins combined between two doubles teams, including the Spangler brothers making it all the way to the State ‘A’ title game.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with head coach Jeff Miller and he recounted his excitement for his players at the highest level of high school tennis.
“It was awesome. First, Carter Chagnon and Mason Kinsella being able to qualify and take fourth at divisional’s and get to state was probably pretty unexpected for them(, but) not surprising for me,” Miller said. “For them to get there and even win a match was awesome.”
“(For) Carter and Max, the state championship match was something that they felt like they should be playing in,” Miller continued. “To make it to that match and finish out the season the way they did was great.”
Now comes the reality of a completed season. It’s never too early to start thinking ahead as coach Miller did, but he also took the time to say how great his second year in charge of the Blue Pony tennis program was.
“I thought this season was great overall between the girls’ and the boys’ teams,” Miller said. “I know at the end of the day, the girls’ probably didn’t have the success that we probably wanted, but it was still a really fun, good year with them.”
“Then with the boys’, we have still a lot to work on moving forward,” Miller continued. “Losing four seniors, four very important seniors, will be tough going forward.”
“(However), we have some really good returning players (on) both teams that I’m really looking forward to working with the next few years,” Miller said.
