HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre Public Schools’ Superintendent Andy Carlson discussed Governor Bullock’s reopening plans with New Media Broadcasters Friday, April 24 and isn’t positive what HPS will decide to do.
Carlson said he is not sure about going back to school May 8 at this point, but his ultimate goal is to get kids back in classrooms this fall.
“We’ve gotta find some way to get our schools back open at some point. I’m not sure how you do that by May 8 – I think that’s a pretty tall order. My ultimate goal is how do we get back together in the fall and I think that’s really what our considerations have to end up being probably at the end of this.”
Carlson said in theory continued social distancing in schools doesn’t seem like a problem but in reality, he’s not sure how well that will actually play out.
“It’s awful tough to tell a first grader and a first-grade teacher not to hug each other and stay six feet a part – I haven’t seen that work very well anywhere.”
Havre Public Schools will discuss the possible May 8 reopening at their next meeting Tuesday, April 28.
