Havre, MT – With the defense leading the charge, Montana State University-Northern Lights football claimed their first victory of the 2025 season.
On Saturday Afternoon MSU-Northern welcomed the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon University. Both teams put up one offensive touchdown in the first half to be tied 7-7 at the break.
In the third quarter wearing number 5, Senior defensive back Spencer Lehnerz picked of Eastern’s Aalona (ah-uh-loh-nah) on back-to-back possessions, returning both to the endzone to give Northern a 20-7 lead midway through the third.
Post game defensive coordinator Dylan Wampler spoke to Lehnerz performance. “He has always been fingertips away from multiple picks a season. Today it just clicked for him. You know he did his job, reacted caught the ball and did everything that we could ask him to do and some. He has been a great leader for us, and he will continue to do so.” Wampler said.
Overall, the Northern defense forced four turnovers, two fumbles and the two interceptions, held eastern to 37 total rushing yards and came up with seven sacks on the afternoon.
The lights are taking momentum into their bye week before taking on Montana Tech at home on October 11th from Tilleman field. Kickoff for lights will once again be at noon, and you can listen on KPQX.
