The MSU-Northern Skylights Basketball Team and Head Coach Chris Mouat have announced the signing of McKenzie Long set to join the Skylights in the fall.
At Walla Walla Community College, Long was a First Team All-Region selection. Long averaged 13.9 points, 4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while connected on 70 three-point field goals in the 2022-23 season.
Here is Skylights Head Basketball Coach Christ Mouat on the fit of his newest signing:
Coach Chris Mouat – “Yeah, she does a nice job. You know, she (she) shoots the three really well. She made a lot of threes last year. She also did a really good job, you know, mid range and getting to the rim. We like her overall game on offense, and then she’s unselfish with the ball. She shares it pretty well. But then, where she’s also stood out, and really doesn’t show up on the stat sheet, is on defense. She was usually guarding the other team’s best player. And so, she’s a pretty complete at both ends. A great addition to us. You know, gonna just bring some numbers on the (on the) offensive end, but also bring something on defense.”
With Long being the newest Skylight to join along with other athletes during this off season, Coach Mouat speaks about integrating the new players to a unique supporting culture at MSU-Northern.
Coach Chris Mouat – “I think chemistry is a big one. I think the family atmosphere we provide here. I think we’ve been lucky, we’ve been very fortunate to have fans who support that, host families who support that, faculty and staff who support that. I think (that’s a) that is a change for some kids who get here, and haven’t been in that environment. But I think that’s what we really try to promote with our culture.”
Congratulations to McKenzie Long and the Skylights on their newest addition.
