Montana Congressional Delegation Speaks Out Against Empire Builder Cuts

WASHINGTON (NMB) – Montana’s entire congressional delegation is speaking out after Amtrak announced they will be limiting service on long distance lines, including the Empire Builder.

U.S. Senators Steve Daines and Jon Tester, as well as Congressman Greg Gianforte, each wrote letters to Amtrak President and CEO William Flynn expressing disapproval of the company’s announcement.

The Empire Builder currently runs daily from Chicago to Seattle and features several stops on the Hi-Line.

All three letters cited a threat to the economy of Montana’s rural communities and asked for more clarity on whether these cuts were necessary.

Amtrak has stated that the Empire Builder will trim service to three days a week beginning October 1st, with the potential to restore daily service by summer 2021 at the earliest.
