OVANDO, Mont. (NMB) – Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks says that the grizzly bear suspected of killing a camper on Tuesday morning near Ovando has been fatally shot.
The 400-pound grizzly was found less than two miles from where 65-year-old Leah Davis Lokan of Chico, California was pulled out of her tent and killed in the middle of the night.
Two people in an adjacent tent were awakened by the attack and sprayed the bear with bear spray. It then ran away.
At another point in the night, the bear got into a chicken coop and killed and ate several chickens.
A second chicken coop was raided on Wednesday night, and the bear was spotted by the coop on Thursday night and shot by wildlife officials that were using night vision technology.
Confirming DNA analysis of the bear will take a few days.
