(NMB) The MSU-Northern Lights football team traveled for their second matchup of the season with the Dickinson State Blue Hawks on Saturday.
The game started a bit off kilter, as Dickinson drove to the Lights 2-yard line, to go four and out. Northern tried to get some space but was caught in the end zone on the second play of the drive, putting the Blue Hawks up 2-0. The next Dickinson drive resulted in the same situation, but they opted for a field goal instead after being denied another 2-yard punch, which went wide. The Blue Hawks did find the end zone toward the end of the first quarter, to move up 9-0.
Northern started a spark in the second period, holding Dickinson off while scoring on a 30-yard pass play and a blocked punt for a touchdown to take the 14-9 halftime lead.
The third quarter saw a bit of revenge for the Blue Hawks as they shutdown Northern’s offense while picking up two more scores to end the third ahead 23-14. Dickison would score two more times in the final stanza, while the Lights found the end zone again late in the fourth with a failed point after attempt, to fall to their hosts 37-20.
Next week, Northern will hold it’s final regular home game of the season as they take on the Valley City State Vikings at Tilleman Field. Kickoff is set for noon on Saturday November 8th, and will be broadcast on KPQX.
