Havre, Mt – Montana State University Northern dropped their season opener at home Saturday afternoon to the 25th ranked Carroll College Saints 20-0.
MSU-Northern opened up the game with a good drive that ended as a turnover on downs just outside the redzone. Carroll College marched down the field on their first drive but got stopped in the redzone that set up a field goal to give Carroll the early 3-0 lead. Later in the first quarter Carroll College quarterback Kaden Huot ran for the only TD of the half giving Corroll a 10-0 lead.
In the second Northern would hold Carroll to a single field goal to enter the half down 13-0.
A strong defensive performance from both teams in the third quarter saw no team score setting up a fourth quarter and a two-score deficit for Northern(13-0).
Northern Defense remained consistent and strong until Carroll scored a touchdown after a fumble punt return by Northern.
Lights quarterback Asthon plat, a first-time starter, finished the game throwing for 80 yards, 0TD, 1INT.
