HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Hill County’s new Ag/4-H Extension Agent is only a week into her new job, but she’s already gotten to work to help the local community.
Colleen Buck had been an Extension Agent in Sheridan County since 2015, and was the first woman to hold that position. She says the experience she gained in northeastern Montana has prepared her to assist the Hill County community.
“It’s going to be a little bit of a transition. There’s more of a population base in Hill County than there is in Sheridan County. However, the 4-H program numbers are about the same, so that will be a nice transition to not have to handle larger numbers right off the bat, but hopefully we can grow the 4-H program a little bit as well.”
Buck says she has begun to settle into her job, and has received guidance from former Extension Agent Tom Allen, who retired from the position at the end of 2020.
“Tom has been great. He’s a great, valuable resource and he’s made himself available for any questions I may have or anything like that. So I know he’s enjoying retirement, but I’ll definitely give him a call every now and then.”
Buck graduated from the University of Wyoming with an Ag Business and Animal Science Degree, and then went to the New Mexico State to obtain a masters in Ruminant Nutrition.
