The American Legion Class A State Tournament kicked off Wednesday morning with the Havre Northstars falling to the Miles City Mavericks 8-1.
It was a defensive battle through the first three innings with Miles City driving in one run in the bottom of the second to lead 1-0.
The Mavericks started to put the game away scoring six runs to lead 7-0 in the fourth. Havre was able to respond with a run of their own in top of the fifth, but that was the only offense the Northstars could summon.
In the bottom of the sixth inning the Mavericks added one more to claim victory 8-1.
Havre still has hope left as they will once again play at 9:30a.m. Thursday morning against the looser between the mission Valley Mariners and the Belgrade Bandits.
