Salvation Army Giving Tree Helps Needy Kids During Holidays

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Havre’s Salvation Army will again help needy children receive gifts this holiday season thanks to their Giving Tree program. Social Services Director Trina Crawford says that the Giving Trees will have cards attached with gift requests from kids up to age 12. They will have some new Giving Tree locations this year.

“With the closure of Kmart, we’ve been able to find some other alternatives and so we are going to be having a giving tree at Holiday Village Mall. And Gary & Leo’s IGA has stepped up and said they would take a giving tree. And Wal-Mart has stepped up and said that they would also take a Giving Tree.”

Crawford says that needy families can still sign their kids up to receive presents this year.

“So the Giving Tree is a program for people that are low-income or are in need to be able to make their Christmas a little easier for their kids to receive presents and usually they get clothes and they usually get coats. So a person can walk up and take a tag off, and then you can buy the gifts for that tag.”

The Salvation Army is also running their Red Kettle Campaign, and their Adopt-a-Family program, which provides gifts and a meal for a whole family.
