Chinook, MT – Returning quarterback Ryan Bell was electrifying on the field Friday night in Chinooks season opener.
Junior quarterback Ryan bell led the charge despite throwing two interceptions. Bell threw for one touchdown in the first quarter and rushed for another touchdown in the third quarter.
Coach mike jones spoke to Bell’s resolve and composure despite the interceptions. ” I don’t ever get on him for mistakes. What we tell him is I didn’t coach you well enough.” Said Coach Jones. “His resolve comes from, it’s his third year, and he finally was like, “you know what that’s not my fault right” and he just let it go and so it was really cool to see that leadership and calm demeanor take over.”
Bell has been known to be a key contributor to the SugarBeeter ground game, but the dynamic quarterback did not run the ball at all in the first quarter. Coach Jones said he wanted to ease Bell into the first game of the season.
“You know in the past he would try to get down and get out of bounds, but that kid I’ll tell you is pound for pound one of the strongest kids I’ve seen, and he put the work in the weight room this summer” Coach Jones said. “We let him get into the flow of the game and then decided to run him.”
Bell rushed the ball consistently throughout the last three quarters including a third quarter touchdown run of an unofficially 11-yards on a fourth down.
Bell will lead the SugarBeeters at home once again for a bout with Centerville on Friday, kickoff is at 7p.m.
