The City of Havre is dealing with a concerning problem.
A recent test by the company Hygenix revealed that there are significant levels of surface lead, asbestos, and other heavy metals in the fire station, city hall, and police station in Havre.
Keith Cron is with the company Hygenix and he is now working with the city to develop a remediation process for the building. Dave Peterson the Director of Public Works for the city of Havre is responsible for initiating and managing the project.
Now Dave Peterson explains the next steps to begin the remediation project.
“Well, so our next step is Keith is working with trying to get some cleaners to come in. As soon as we can possibly get them in here, then we will get them in here. We would hope that with the cleaners and then with the abatement of the areas in the fire department garages where they house their fire trucks, those would be the first two steps. And as soon as weather allows us to get in to do that, we would get in there to do that as long as we have contractors to do that. The next step of course it would be the replacement of the duct work systems, so he (Keith Cron) would have to get a hold of a mechanical contractor to come and figure out the design for the mechanical system. This building was built in the 1971, so things have changed since then so they would have to do some type of design, but we would want to do that as quick as possible. If that design can come in and be completed before this fall, then we would certainly get in and get that taken care of.”– Dave Peterson
