Triceratops Cast to Be Unveiled at Wine and Dino Event in Malta

MALTA, Mont. (NMB) – A life-sized cast of a triceratops will be unveiled at a fundraiser later this month in Malta.

The cast, nicknamed ‘Herb,’ was donated by the Witte Museum in San Antonio and has been transported to the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum and Field Station.

Director of Paleontology Cary Woodruff says that the unveiling will take place at the free to attend Wine and Dino event, which begins at 4 PM on Friday, June 25th.

“It’ll be sort of a grand event. Herb is the size of an elephant. So, basically, to put an elephant in our museum, we had to move everything around just to accommodate and make room. So we figured if we’re having to move one thing around, let’s just move everything around.”

Woodruff says the main purpose of this event is to raise awareness of local museums like the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum.

“We really wanted to gear this towards an event where we can get the people in our local community in here. And we thought by doing a free event, that was a really good way to do it. And plus, we basically started to do a new exhibition unveiling every year at the Wine & Dino.”

The annual Wine and Dino event was canceled last year due to the pandemic. Along with the unveiling of ‘Herb,’ this year’s event features live music and food and beverages for purchase.

The event is open to all ages.
