The Havre Northstars took part their annual American Legion Jamboree over the weekend hosted by Havre. Mother nature tested the determination of all the teams in attendance, with Friday’s games being canceled and Saturday’s games being postponed until late at night and into Sunday. That didn’t stop the Northstars however, who’s first game began at 10PM saturday night, with the Northstars coming away with a big (14-1) win over Glendive.
The Northstars went to to tie (2-2) with Gallatin Valley and lose (4-11) to Butte the following day. Here’s Northstars head coach Patch Wirtzberger on his teams first games back after a long graduation break:
Havre Northstars Baseball Coach Patch Wirtzberger – “You know, some good, some bad. After some time off I figured the boys would be a little bit rusty. You know, that kind of showed
a little bit, but it was good to get some baseball in. And there was, like I said, some, some good things and bad things and, you know, just a little inconsistent at this point in the season.”
The Northstars sit at 8-8-1 on the season with they have their first Tri-County matchup of the season against their in-conference foe, the Try County Cardinals on Tuesday. With gaining momentum and starting to string some more consistent wins in the back half of the season being the goal, Coach Wirtzberger knows with players returning for the Cardinals, it will be a good challenge for his team:
Havre Northstars Baseball Coach Patch Wirtzberger – “Early in Tri-County’s season, I know they’ve got some guys coming back. Conference opponent, a good rival for us. So it should
be, should have a lot of energy, be a good challenge for our guys.”
The Northstars and Cardinals game begins Tuesday at 5PM in Havre.
