BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) – A Montana sheriff says 53 inmates and two staff members at a Cascade County jail have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter said Monday the infections are at the Cascade County Detention Center in Great Falls.
Slaughter in June had said more than three dozen Department of Corrections inmates being kept in Cascade County were contributing to overcrowding at the facility, with some inmates sleeping on the floor and in communal spaces.
The outbreak in Cascade County comes on the heels of more than 30 inmates at the Yellowstone County jail in Billings testing positive for COVID-19.
