HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre City Council met on Tuesday evening for their regularly scheduled meeting and approved a series of agenda items.
Several of the approved items were street closures for events that will take place during the weekend of Festival Days.
By unanimous vote, the Council approved a request by the Atrium for the closure of 2nd Street from 3rd Avenue from 1st Street to 2nd Street on Friday, September 18th from 6:15 PM to around 10 PM. This is to allow social distancing at the Downtown Celebration that has been scheduled.
In conjunction with the Downtown Celebration, the Council also approved the Sax Cadillac Band’s request to hold a Street Dance. This event has filed paperwork with the Hill County Health Department in order to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission at the event. The Atrium’s Derek Hann told the Council that although the Health Department is not recommending events that could have over 50 people, the precautions in place at this event make it a low-risk. They also plan on having volunteers present to enforce social distancing.
By a 6-1 vote, the Council approved a request from the Havre Chamber of Commerce to close 3rd Avenue from 1st to 4th Street on Saturday, September 19th from 7 AM to 7 PM for a Vendor Days event, on the condition that they file paperwork with the Health Department. Andrew Brekke cast the dissenting vote.
Other items approved at the meeting (all by unanimous vote):
- The ratification of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City and Public Works employees for July 1st, 2020 through June 30th, 2021. Changes in this agreement from previous year include a 2 percent raise, a $100 annual boot reimbursement and an 8 percent raise in insurance
- A proposal from Forward Montana to do a Census Mailer in the City’s name. Havre residents should expect to receive a mailer in the coming days encouraging them to complete the 2020 Census if they have yet to do so
- August claims and manual warrants
Following those agenda items, the public was invited to comment on the proposed Fiscal Year 2021 Budget. However, no members of the public commented.
The meeting then went into recess. It will reconvene at 6 PM on September 9th, when they are expected to approve the Fiscal Year 2021 budget.
Derek Eldridge was the lone Council member not present at the meeting.
