Havre golf has played three tournaments in the less than one week. Notable individual marks have included Matt Huse firing a career-low 73 to take the East Helena Invite as well as Tierra Parker eclipsing her benchmark of 96 in the same tournament. New Media Broadcasters broke it all down with head coach Dennis Murphy, who said the outlook has been good lately for both teams.
“We had a conversation with our teams after competing in Glendive and Sidney and we weren’t overly happy with how we played,” Murphy said. “But, going down to Helena, we turned that around pretty quickly.”
“We actually played very well as a group on a course that we’d never played before,” Murphy continued. “Very positive throughout the team.”
“Everybody shot better than they had done the week before,” Murphy said. “A really good start of this week.”
The regular season will be coming to a close with two more tournaments at Billings Central and Laurel. Murphy said how he has been coaching to make sure the golfers stay patient and know that finishing with their best foot forward is key before Divisionals.
“Now, we’ll be playing against all of the Eastern ‘A’ schools,” Murphy said. “This gives us a real good measuring stick of where we stand within the conference.”
“We’ll evaluate how we do, where we need to try and gain some strokes or (in this case) lose some strokes, I guess along the way,” Murphy continued. “I’m really looking forward to this weekend.”
“Hopefully, we continue to play at the high level we did on Tuesday,” Murphy said.
The Pony golfers will have results in for the Billings Central meet by Thursday afternoon and play the regular-season finale in Laurel on Friday, which also happens to be the site for Divisional’s next week.
