The Chinook girls’ basketball team is coming off of wins over Fairfield and Cut Bank over the weekend. New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Mike Seymour and he said what he liked about the defense his team has been playing over this undefeated start to the season.
“I felt like we were able to run some of our defensive schemes that we shown yet this year (and) get them on game film so we can show the kids the rotations that we’re talking about a little more clearly and why they need to be in the positions that they’re in,” Seymour said. “(Also) attack angles as far as attacking the dribbler to where we want them to go. So far I’ve been very pleased with our defensive intensity.”
In the Fairfield game in particular, Chinook was guarded in a 2-3 zone for the first time all season. Coach Seymour embraced the adjustments and said what can be done to improve on that aspect as the team plays again this coming weekend.
“This weekend in Fairfield was the first time we’ve seen zone (defense) all year,” Seymour said. “It gives us an opportunity to look at game film again and see what we need to do to sure up our zone offense.”
“When you go on the road, you try and make sure your girls are prepared mentally and physically and then when the tipoff comes, it’s game on,” Seymour continued.
The Lady Beeters will be at home to face Conrad on Friday night and then will be back on the road to take on former 9C rival Chester-Joplin-Inverness on Saturday. Keep up with New Media Broadcasters for previews on both those teams later this week.
