The Chinook basketball teams were in action for the second straight night, this time at home. The Sugarbeeter girls won against Cut Bank, (78-15), while the Beeter boys came up short, losing (71-60).
For the Chinook girls’ (7-0, 4-0 in Class 1B conference play), the game was over within a few minutes of game action. The Beeters raced out to a (32-7) lead after one and had a running clock going by the third quarter. Chinook didn’t allow Cut Bank to score in the 4th quarter and only gave up two points in the third. Senior forward Hallie Neibauer scored 17 points in the first quarter and finished with a game-high 19. She was joined in double-figures by sophomore guard Brooke Fetter’s 15 and junior forward Hannah Schoen’s 11.
For the Beeter boys’ (1-7, 0-5 conference), they had to battle back from a double-digit halftime deficit and were able to cut it to five points in the second half after a (10-0) run. Then near the four-minute mark of the 4th quarter, senior center Jackson Nordboe dove for a loose ball and had his leg caught under him. He exited the game and would not return. Nordboe led the team with 13 points, while freshman guard Ryan Bell recorded four 3-pointers to end his night with 12. Junior guard Carson Nissen and sophomore guard Isaac Kelly also had solid outings, putting up 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Chinook will have two more games next Friday and Saturday; at home against Conrad and on the road at Chester-Joplin-Inverness.
