(Montana) FDA analysis has determined that certain dietary supplements labeled as tejocote root are contaminated because they were tested and found to be substituted with yellow oleander, a poisonous plant native to Mexico and Central America and a toxic substance of concern to public health officials. These products were mislabeled.
Yellow oleander can cause adverse health effects that may be severe, or even fatal. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, among others.
The FDA reports that the products it tested were purchased online from Amazon, Etsy, Innovacion Natural, and Alipotecus,
The FDA advises that consumers stop taking and dispose of these products immediately, and that anyone who has taken these products tell their health care provider immediately, even if the product wasn’t used recently.
