Havre Basketball Takes On Sidney Saturday

Havre basketball garnered a split with Fergus on Thursday night. Before the next games tip off, New Media Broadcasters got the thoughts of both head coaches as they make the long journey to Sidney to play in more conference games.

When it comes to the girls’ team, coach Tommy Brown identified a couple of players that will give his teams fits and said what it will all ultimately come down to in having success on the road.

“Sidney, they have a good post player that we’ll have to put our focus on,” Brown said. “Once again, they have the (Ave) Norby kid back. She’s having a great season.”

“We’ll have to do a good job containing her,” Brown continued. “Then, do what we always do, which is play hard and have a good attitude.”

“It has to take all kids’ best efforts to come out on top,” Brown said.

The Havre boys’ need a win and will have the chance to do so against an Eagles team that is at the bottom of the Northeastern ‘A’. Coach Walynn Burgess highlighted a key defensive factoid that Sidney has excelled in this season.

“(We’re) playing a Sidney team that’s got some young kids that have been playing a lot more,” Burgess said. “They play hard. They get after it. They’re leading the state right now in steals.”

“We just have to be prepared to ball control, making sure that we’re taking care of our possessions,” Burgess continued. “Evaluating each possession (and) knowing that taking those next steps as a team getting ready for that end-of-season play.”

The Havre boys’ (5-6, 1-2) will be up first on court Saturday around 4pm in Sidney, followed by the girls’ (10-1, 3-0) around 5:30pm. KOJM-610AM, 98.3FM, and HiLineToday.com will have you covered.
