The Havre High Golf Program is starting anew as the first official sport of the fall season to get going. Over the course of the next month, the team will have eight regular season invites before Divisional’s start on September 21st.
The program will also have a new head coach, but a familiar face to those around the Havre community. Dennis Murphy, who had been an assistant for the past five seasons, takes over the helm and spoke with New Media Broadcasters about his history on the Hi-Line.
“I taught in Havre for 30 years. The last 20 years, I acted as the activities director for Havre High School,” Murphy said. “I spent some time coaching basketball also when I first came in to Havre.”
Practice and the process of choosing the team began on Thursday. In terms of the golf itself, Coach Murphy broke down what still needs to be done before Invitational’s are set to begin next week.
“We did two days for trying to qualify to get our varsity team set for next week,” Murphy said. “The golf season in the fall happens very quickly and that’s why we need to have these qualifiers early to get those teams selected.”
