The Havre Northstars played a doubleheader on Friday night against the Lethbridge Miners, a series that was rained out on Tuesday and made up in Havre. The Northstars fell to the Miners in Game 1, (2-1).
The low-scoring affair was a pitchers duel from the jump between Havre’s Brody Nanini and Lethbridge’s Jarrett McNeil. Both pitchers went the distance, but it was Lethbridge who came out on top courtesy of a McNeil no-hitter.
Havre pushed across a run in the second inning courtesy of a Terek Shipp sacrifice fly that scored Jevin Jenkins, who got on base via an error.
The very next inning, the Miners got to Nanini, who allowed the first three batters to reach base before giving up multiple RBI groundouts. The rest of the game was a bunch of zeroes on the scoreboard.
McNeil struck out five Northstars overall, including three after giving up the sac fly. He was able to retire the Northstars in order to end the game.
Game two was also close, but this time, Havre finally got it done, beating Lethbridge for the first time all season, (7-2).
Tanner Delarosa was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game on the mound. Drake Berreth led the charge with three hits in the contest, while Ezra Pyle, Shipp, and Jenkins all recorded multi-hit efforts.
Shipp and Jenkins drove in the first three runs of the game during the top of the first inning. Lethbridge cut the deficit to one run with a two-spot in the second inning. Zeroes were traded until the sixth when the Northstars broke the game open with one run and closed it out with three in the seventh.
Havre will now come off this high and host the Medicine Hat Knights in a doubleheader on Saturday. Story to follow and also air on New Media Broadcasters platforms during 9:30pm sports on Saturday night.
