HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – The Havre Ordinance Committee met earlier this week and voted to move two proposals to the full council.
The first is a raise for the Mayor’s office that was proposed by Terry Lilletvedt. This would be the first raise for the Mayor since 2006, and would boost their annual salary from $22,000 to $30,000, likely starting on January 1st, 2021.
The second proposal is an addition to a city ordinance that states it is illegal to knowingly or purposely feed deer. Although this is already in state law and citable by Fish, Wildlife and Parks, the Committee hopes to use this as an educational tool to try and decrease the overpopulation of deer in Havre. If passed, it would be enforceable by the Havre Police Department.
Both proposals will now go to the full council for a first reading. The City Council must approve ordinance changes twice before they are enacted.
