The Havre softball team dominated at the LaVerne Tournament last weekend with wins over Corvallis, Frenchtown, Anaconda, and Polson. Head coach Tony Vigliotti said that his team has not looked better to this point and that he is looking forward to riding the wave into the next task at hand.
“That is always the goal when we start in March,” Vigliotti said. “It’s nice to get on the field and we played really last weekend in Butte.”
“We beat two really good quality teams and frankly two other teams that we should have beat,” Vigliotti continued. “That’s the way we’re playing. We’re playing our best softball, which was the goal.”
“Hopefully, we can continue that with the divisional tournament ahead of us this weekend,” Vigliotti said.
The Eastern ‘A’ Divisional Tournament is taking place in Lewistown, where the Blue Ponies will be the No. 1 seed out of the Northeastern region. The result is playing Park County, the No. 4 seed from the Southeast. Coach Vigliotti mentioned Park teams of the past as conference foes back in the day and said his current squad should have no problem controlling its own destiny at the tournament.
“(Park is) always well coached,” Vigliotti said. “They always do the little things right. They’re fundamentally good.”
“We’ll have our hands full,” Vigliotti continued. “It’ll be a good softball game. It’ll be a challenge for us.”
“I think with the way we’re playing and the way (pitcher) Elle (Verploegen) is throwing, defensively we’ve just gotten better each and every time out,” Vigliotti said. “I like where we’re at. I like (how) we’re playing and (let’s) get ourselves to that state tournament.”
Havre’s game with Park kicks off at 10am on Friday. The Blue Ponies will play at 2pm regardless of the result, taking on either the winner or loser of the Laurel-Dawson County matchup.
