The Havre fast pitch softball team honored three seniors before the conference season finale on Saturday afternoon. Second baseman Shelby Huston, pitcher Elle Verploegen, and center fielder Jersi Morse got their flowers literally and figuratively for their contributions to the Blue Ponies program. Havre then took care of Dawson County, (7-0).
The game started off slow for both teams as they traded zeroes, but in the third inning, Morse beat out a throw for an infield single and was able to advance to third on a sacrifice bunt by Verploegen. She came around to score two batters later after catcher Camille Keeley singled her in. Third baseman Kamree Oliver got an RBI double in the next at-bat to bring Keeley home. Two batters after that, left fielder Brenna Hanson got into the action with a two-run double and it was (4-0) Blue Ponies after three innings.
Another scoring outing for Havre came in the next inning when the bases were loaded. Keeley smacked a grounder down the left field line to score everyone on base to ice the game and she finished with four runs batted in.
In her final game at Sixth Avenue Memorial Field, Verploegen shined once again. In her latest complete game shutout, she allowed 2 hits and struck out 10 Red Devils to improve to (10-3) on the season.
The Blue Ponies (11-6, 7-1 in the Northeastern ‘A’) will conclude the regular season on the road for one final tournament in Butte next Friday and Saturday before heading to Lewistown for the Eastern ‘A’ Divisional Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
