Havre Track and Field Ready For Divisionals

While the Havre Track and Field teams did not win the last regular season invite down in Polson, the squads did have breakthrough moments individually and as a unit during the relays. New Media Broadcasters caught up with head coach Kari Filius and she said her main takeaway from the weekend was the established consistency from the start of the season to now and that her programs are trending in the right direction.

“The main thing is that we had 22 personal records by the athletes that went to Polson, and that tells me that the kids are still working towards peak, which is perfect because we are getting into the postseason,” Filius said. “Everything is getting better. Times are getting faster and that was really good to see that we’re still improving.”

The attention turns now to the Eastern ‘A’ Divisional, which will be a two-day affair down in Laurel. Filius shared the mindset of what her team will be feeling on the way down south and how they can use past experiences to propel them to new heights in the first postseason test.

“We’re going to get there early so we’re not stressed about the first day,” Filius said. “(We’ll) get a good warmup and get the kids comfortable.”

‘”We already competed (in Laurel) this year (on Apr. 20). We had a good track meet down there,” Filius continued. “(This is) just to remind them of how well we did when we were there and how much better we are now and keep them confident in believing that they are going to do the best they can.”

“Hopefully that is going to carry through and then get as many as we can through to state,” Filius said.

Stay tuned for results from the two-day Eastern ‘A’ Divisional Track and Field Meet in Laurel, which begins this Friday.
