HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Sunday’s Hill County 4-H Livestock Sale set a record for gross sales despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
56 animals were sold Sunday for a total gross sale of $182,345. Market sheep went for an average of $7.52 a pound, hogs went for an average of $6.07 a pound, and beef went for an average of $4.33 a pound.
All but one of the animals were sold to buyers that attended the sale in person.
Hill County Extension Agriculture Agent Tom Allen says he can’t thank the community enough for their support.
“The community was ready to support us. We didn’t know what to expect going into the sale with the economic times we’re in right now, and the community just stepped up. It was just phenomenal. It was really kind of hard to believe.”
This year’s total sales well exceeds last year’s estimated $150,000 in sales, in which 79 animals were sold.
The money raised goes back to the 4-H kids that raised the animals and some save that money for college.
