Havre, MT – Montana State University-Northern Lights football has started the year 0-3 after falling on the road to Dickinson State this past Saturday (44-13). After a strong fourth quarter against Montana Western the week prior, Lights QB Maliki Statler threw five interceptions in the loss.
On the defensive side of the ball the Lights have given up 123 points through three games. To counter that the offense has scored only 62 points. MSU-Northern Head coach Jerome Souers spoke with NMB sports on how the team is progressing despite the losses.
“The first couple games I think we learned a lot about ourselves. I think we have some explosive capacity on offense when we execute properly. . . I thought that Carroll and Western were two really good challenges for our defense and we got better, even though the score didn’t show it, against Dickinson. We had fewer explosives against us; we did a better job against the run and again we have a lot of things were still working on to be more consistent in our play.”
The Lights will battle the number four team in the country in the College of Idaho Coyotes. Kickoff is set for noon on Saturday from Tilleman field and you can listen live on your home MSU-Northern sports KPQX.
