(Helena) – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality is looking to change how it regulates human and animal crematoriums, and they want to hear from the public.The state agency is proposing a new registration program to replace the current requirement for a Montana Air Quality Permit.
Officials say because crematoriums have similar, low levels of emissions, a registration system will cut down on unnecessary paperwork while keeping environmental rules clear.
A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29th, at 11:00 a.m. You can attend in person at the DEQ office in Helena or join online via Zoom.If you can’t make the meeting, the state is accepting written comments until October 2nd at 5:00 p.m. Comments can be mailed to the DEQ Legal Unit or emailed to DEQ MAR 2026 dash 78 at m-t dot gov.
