Montana FWP sues national Fish and Wildlife Services

(Montana) Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks says its going to sue the national Fish and Wildlife Service for including wolverines on the threatened species list.

In a press release, Montana FWP says that wolverines are doing well in Montana and inhabit almost all of their natural habitat.

Montana FWP says that the national FWS’s justification was flawed, saying it used data that was too broad and prediction models for the year 2100 to point to a prediction in decreased snow packing as a reason to protect these animals, which FWP says goes against recent data which shows wolverines can den and reproduce without snow.

The FWP says it’s next step is filing a lawsuit in federal district court.
