MT Hemp Growers Make Montana First State to Establish a 1% Hemp Checkoff

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – Wednesday, April 22 Montana hemp growers made Montana the first state in the nation to institute a one percent checkoff for hemp.

Montana Department of Agriculture (MDA) Director Ben Thomas said, “I believe there is a high ceiling for the future of hemp in Montana, but we won’t be able to get there without investing in research, marketing and education. It’s great to see Montana hemp growers’ willingness to look towards the future, and we are excited to work together to move things forward.”

The one percent checkoff will help fund hemp research, market development and education.

MDA is also currently seeking applicants who want to serve on the Montana Hemp Advisory Committee.

Applications and more information can be found at agr.mt.gov. The deadline for applications is Friday, May 15.
