(Havre) The US Department of Housing and Urban Development released their homelessness report earlier this week, reporting that since this time last year, homelessness in the US has increased by 18%.
New Media Broadcasters spoke with Director of the Havre Salvation Army Emergency Services Center Trina Crawford, who says that the national trend has been felt locally as well.
“As far as homeless conditions of our community, we are definitely seeing an upsurge in homeless. In this last even two months it’s probably doubled, the amount of people having requests for lodging due to homelessness”
Crawford approached the Havre City Council earlier this year to ask that they look into city ordinance and code to try and find a way to assuage the homeless issue. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
