(Havre) The National Weather Service is warning the public that Thursday, January 11th and Friday, January 12th will be some of the coldest temperatures the Hi-Line has seen all season.
The NWS has assigned this drop in temperature as a “moderate” risk level. New Media Broadcasters spoke with National Weather Service Meteorologist Matthew Ludwig (luhd-wig) about what a moderate risk level entails.
“Those categories are kind of a combination of the probability of something occuring and the impact it will have. Especially this far out, when we’re looking at something with a moderate impact, there’s still some uncertainty with it. We know there’s at least going to be some impacts to daily life: driving to work, going to school, we are starting to get into calving season. So, we know that those are things that start to get impacted by this.”, he said. “A moderate risk is something that we see a couple times a year, to be a major risk then it’s something we see maybe once a year on average, and then extreme is something outside of what we would normally see. So that’s what those roughly equate to.”
