(Havre) The National Weather Service predicts at the end of this week, specifically Thursday January 11th and Friday January 12th, the region will see some of the coldest temperatures they have seen all season.
The NWS is issuing an orange or “moderate risk” for cold temperatures to all areas. New Media Broadcasters spoke with Matthew Ludwig, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, to ask more on who needs to take precautions against the cold.
“Usually when we get temperatures this cold, the people that are most at risk are those that have chronic health problems, the elderly, the young. Those are the kind of people that start to really get [at risk]. Really anybody who is working outside, those are the ones who face increased danger from the cold.”, he said. “For those that do have to face the cold, and they still have to be outside or go to their car or wherever they’re going, make sure that you’re wearing hats and gloves, appropriate coat, just making sure you have what you need to stay warm so that you’re not winding up hypothermic or with frost bite”
Ludwig says that given the windchill expected on Thursday and Friday, frostbite has the ability to set in as quickly as 10 minutes.
